King Abdullah Foundation reviews progress of humanitarian projects

The Board of Trustees of the King Abdullah International Foundation for Charity and Humanitarian Works on Sunday held its third meeting in Jeddah in the presence of Prince Khaled bin Abdullah, the board chairman, and Prince Miteb bin Abdullah, the deputy board chairman.

The board explored the agenda of the meeting which contained the message of the foundation recommended by the late King Abdullah that works of the foundation be of global and humanitarian nature to achieve its noble and humanitarian objectives.
The message also stressed that the foundation joins other humanitarian activities that serve Islam, the Kingdom, Arab and Islamic worlds, the whole world in addition to the spread of values of tolerance, peace and virtues through seven major themes including education, economic development, health care, science and technology, social relief, interfaith dialogue, and the spread of peace and security.


The meeting also discussed initiatives carried out by the foundation such as the opening of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Mosque in Riyadh during the current month of Ramadan which can accommodate 2,000 worshippers, an iftar project and activation of the role of the mosque through the organization of lectures during the holy month. The meeting also dealt with the foundation’s contribution to the rehabilitation of Al-Shafie Mosque in Jeddah that dates back 1,400 years which was implemented jointly with the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities, the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, and Jeddah Municipality.
The foundation has established a health project aimed to care for kidney patients through six centers located in different parts of the Kingdom: Two in Riyadh and one in Makkah, Madinah, Jeddah, and Hail. Similar centers will be set up in other cities with their capacities reaching up to 920 dialysis chairs.
Regarding housing projects which are being supervised by the foundation, some 1,922 housing units were provided to the needy in different regions including Madinah, Riyadh, Jeddah, Mukhwa, Ahsa, Amlaj, Laith, Ghazala, and Samta. The board was also briefed on the second phase of the housing project aimed at the construction of 700 units in Riyadh, Qassim, Najran, Asir, Northern Border, Jouf, and Tabuk.


The meeting was briefed on other humanitarian works implemented by organizations affiliated to the foundation such as King Abdulaziz Public Library. The foundation further contributed to the communal developmental projects like Bab Rizq Jameel Project in addition to its cooperation with international corporations in supporting humanitarian projects carried out by the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) in Asia and Africa.
