IEC Telecom unveils its latest humanitarian missions’ satellite solutions at DIHAD 2018

IEC Telecom Group and Al Yah Satellite Communications Company (Yahsat) unveiled their latest humanitarian mission’s satellite solution, YahClick Wi-Fi, at this year’s 15th edition of Dubai International Humanitarian Aid and Development Conference and Exhibition (DIHAD).

Developed to meet the requirements of NGO units, YahClick Wi-Fi is a quick deployable Internet broadband solution that operates in remote locations. Powered by YahClick connectivity, BlueTown hardware and a suit of IEC value-added services, YahClick Wi-Fi provides humanitarian teams with a reliable and rapid deployable Wi-Fi solution that keeps them in touch with the rest of the world, regardless of their location.

Internet services have the power to transform lives, offering life-enhancing financial, health, and many other services, as well as the simple ability to express oneself to one’s family and community. Yet, 46% of the world’s population in emerging markets lack access to these services, and even those who have access often do not adopt services, because of constraints arising from limited affordability and value.

Roughly four billion people globally have yet to adopt the Internet. And while young people are at the forefront of Internet adoption, nearly 9 out of 10 young individuals who live in Africa or Asia and the Pacific don’t use the Internet (compared to 94% of young people in the developed countries and 67% in developing countries). According to UNHCR's latest education report, 3.5 million refugee children lack access to education as well. Only 61% of refugee children attend primary school, compared with a global average of 91%. Innovation and availability of new solutions in this sector can accelerate Internet adoption and improve the quality of life for those people.

“A connected refugee camp can play a critical role in enabling humanitarian organizations to innovate effectively and to improve the quality of services provided. These organizations need to have reliable and readily available means of communication in order to stay connected with their teams regardless of their location,” commented Nabil Ben Soussia, Managing Director at IEC Telecom Group. “YahClick Wi-Fi helps these organizations keep in touch with the rest of the world, empowering the front-line staff to help generate the right first response to tackle the emergency crises.”

“Supporting UN and NGO humanitarian missions remains a long-term focus of IEC Telecom’s future expansion plans and strategic goals. By exhibiting for the 9th time at DIHAD, IEC Telecom will contribute to new trends in operational support with best practices in humanitarian assistance, strengthening its position amongst the community of global players supporting vulnerable communities worldwide,” added Ben Soussia.

“We are delighted to join our partners IEC Telecom at DIHAD 2018” commented Najat Abdulrahman, EVP Global Strategic Business Development at Yahsat. “Our participation in previous DIHAD editions alongside our long-term partners IEC Telecom, and as we continue to do so during this edition, demonstrates our common values and shared commitment towards developing innovative solutions that address the needs of the humanitarian community.” added Abdulrahman.

YahClick WiFi operates on KA band, offering a speed up to 16 Mbps with coverage across the Middle East and Africa. The installation of the system can take less than 24 hours with data distribution coverage of 250m from the base station. If required, coverage can also be extended to cover a larger distribution area. The system can also run 24/7 using solar panels or grip power with battery backup.

IEC Telecom will be present at DIHAD 2018 in Rashid Hall, DWTC on stand D-16.
