The Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association (GPCA) has announced the winners of the 2nd GPCA Responsible Care Awards, which took place in a star-studded ceremony on the evening of May 7, 2018 at the InterContinental, Dubai – Festival City, UAE.

The awards enjoyed a record number of nominations, attracting 63 entries in six highly contested categories covering occupational health and safety, process safety, the environment, resource utilization and more. For the first time, the awards featured a special young employee category ‘Rising Star’ and ‘Best Responsible Care Company for Logistics Service Providers (LSPs).’

The ‘Occupational Health, Safety and Security Award’ was awarded to the Gulf Petrochemical Industries Co. (GPIC) of Bahrain for its “One step ahead” program, a unique approach for improved communication enabling informed decisions.

Sadara Chemical Company won the ‘Process Safety Award’ for its Manufacturing Leaders Process Qualification Program, while the ‘Environment and Resource Utilization Award’ went to Farabi Petrochemicals of Saudi Arabia for its Emissions Reduction Initiative. Farabi’s entry was praised for the huge energy savings and CO2 intensity reductions it achieved.

The ‘Product Stewardship Award’ was bestowed upon Petrochemical Industries Company (PIC) of Kuwait for its ‘Successful Implementation of Product Stewardship Program for Ammonia’, which achieved overall compliance effectiveness of 80%, up from 33% initially.

Manal Al Badawi, Senior Environmental Specialist, Borouge, won first place in the ‘Rising Star Award’; and Almajdouie & De Rijke Logistics, which in 2017 achieved Responsible Care Company status, was awarded ‘Best LSP – Responsible Care Company Award’.

The Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association (GPCA) Responsible Care Awards are designed to honor companies and individuals that have demonstrated leadership and outstanding performance in the implementation and execution of the Responsible Care program.

Through this award series, GPCA provides its member companies and other industry stakeholders with an opportunity to showcase their achievements in the field of Responsible Care, while sharing best practice and adding value to their business.
