GDT and Najm launch ‘For Safer Roads’ drive

The General Department of Traffic (GDT) and Najm company for insurance services, launched a joint traffic awareness campaign under the theme “For Safer Roads”, which aims to encourage and sensitize road users, especially motorists, to abide by traffic laws and bring out behavior change.

The multimedia campaign launched in Arabic, English and Urdu, will target the diverse cultural and language backgrounds of road users in Saudi Arabia.

The campaign focuses on the distractive effect of using a mobile phone when driving, speed and reckless driving, as well as highlighting the damage caused by non-compliance with traffic safety rules. In addition, the campaign is focusing on the importance of seat belt to mitigate the severity and impact of the injury in case of accidents.

In this regard, the Director of the General Department of Traffic, General Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Bassami, said the awareness campaign “For Safer Roads” is a road safety outreach program stressing the fact that road safety is a shared responsibility that requires the cooperation between the General Department of Traffic, government and private stakeholders and the society to take full interest in promoting road safety awareness.

Fahad bin Ibrahim Al-Akeel, CEO of Najm, said the Kingdom's transformation and development towards a better future entitles building a healthy society in line with Vision 2030. Road safety is one of the common issues that is impacting the safety of the citizens and residents in the Kingdom on a daily basis.

He added: “The awareness campaign stems out from the Najm’s social responsibility towards the Kingdom and its citizens and residents. We aim through this campaign to foster road safety knowledge and instill important road safety behavior.”

Al-Akeel appreciated the continues efforts and the great role played by the Ministry of Interior represented by the General Department of Traffic to reduce road accidents and improve the traffic safety standards in the Kingdom, praising their support for the campaign which will have a great impact on its success.

The campaign will also introduce school based road safety education including workshops in schools and universities across the Kingdom in addition to mall activations and several of activities and events to achieve its preset goals.
