Ford Expedition Adds BLIS and Other Driver-Assist Technologies, Packing the Full-Size Utility Vehicle With Modern Conveniences

When launched, the new Ford Expedition earned a five-star Overall Vehicle Score from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the highest vehicle safety rating in the US, and today, it remains the only SUV in its class to achieve the top rating.

Offering drivers comprehensive safety systems that include AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control, Safety Canopy side curtain airbags, SOS Post-Crash Alert System, tyre pressure monitoring system, and traction control, Ford’s largest SUV is built tough enough to keep the whole family safe and comfortable.

Expedition has a host of standard safety features aimed at protecting drivers and occupants, as well as driver-assist features that are new to the latest model, with other available features, such as radar-based Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) with cross-traffic alert, debuting on the newest model.

Using sensor-based radar technology located in the SUV’s rear quarter-panels, traffic which enters a driver’s defined blind spot in a neighbouring lane can be detected. BLIS provides both audible and visual – an indicator light in the side mirror corresponding to the side on which the vehicle is approaching – warnings.

BLIS also enables cross-traffic alert, warning the driver of oncoming traffic when backing out of a parking space with obstructed views. In combination with the standard rearview camera, the system makes for confident manoeuvring in parking lots.

Complementing BLIS with cross-traffic alert is the Expedition’s available Forward/Reversing Sensing System, which uses innovative ultrasonic sensors in the bumpers to audibly alert drivers to certain objects when moving forward or backing up at low speeds. The closer the object, the quicker the beeps.

Expedition debuted in 1996 and is Ford’s largest utility vehicle. By most measures, it is a leader in interior space, accommodating eight passengers. From the outset, engineers worked to make the latest Expedition a technologically advanced vehicle that is easy to drive and offers refinement for all types of drivers.

The 2016 Ford Expedition is available now from Al Jazirah Vehicles Agencies showrooms, starting at SR 129,900.
