Dubai Culture Showcases Dubai’s Cultural and Artistic Destinations at Arabian Travel Market 2018

Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the Emirate’s dedicated entity for culture, arts and heritage, showcased Dubai’s thriving artistic and cultural scene in partnership with the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (Dubai Tourism) during the Arabian Travel Market 2018. The global industry event, which ran from 22nd to 25th April at the Dubai World Trade Centre, aimed to increase travel in the Middle East through Dubai.

During the Arabian Travel Market 2018, Dubai Culture presented selected art works from art galleries in Dubai such as Al Marsa and Mattar Bin Lahej to encourage Emirati and UAE-based artists to showcase their talents in front of an international audience. This supported Dubai Culture’s vision of establishing Dubai as a creative and sustainable global city for culture, heritage, arts and literature by activating the Emirate’s cultural influence and strengthening its soft power both regionally and globally.

Dubai Culture also showcased the Etihad Museum, which is the first museum that focuses on the political history of the UAE, in addition to distributing the 7th edition of ‘ArtMap’ — a comprehensive artistic and cultural guide to major events and exhibitions taking place across the UAE that is published bi-annually in collaboration with ArtintheCity. The Authority also displayed artistic works in the VIP section, including photographs chosen by Ali Bin Thalith, Secretary General of Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award, seven sculptures by Emirati artist Matar Bin Lahej, a calligraphy piece by artist Wissam Shawkat, and other artworks by Khaled Bin Saliman and Naja Mahdawi.

Dubai Culture worked alongside Dubai Tourism at the Arabian Travel Market 2018 to enhance Dubai’s position as a global hub for culture and creativity. By participating in the event, Dubai Culture supported the objectives of the Dubai Plan 2021, which aims to enhance the happiness and comfort of people living in the Emirate of Dubai by promoting a vibrant and sustainable multi-cultural society.

Dubai Culture aims to enhance Dubai’s cultural scene and draw attention to the Emirate’s rich heritage with a variety of initiatives that take place throughout the year. The Authority’s mandate is to build bridges of constructive dialogue between different civilisations and cultures through enriching initiatives that benefit the Emirate’s citizens, residents and visitors.
