New Saudi center to increase coordination between govt, media launched

Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Culture and Information Awwad Al-Awwad on Sunday launched a government communication center in Riyadh with the aim “to enhance integration and coordination between government agencies and the media.”

The establishment of the facility, the minister said, is part of his ministry’s wider communication strategy to keep pace with the development process of the Kingdom.
Al-Awwad hoped the communication center would serve as an important communication tool for the government.

The minister said the idea of a government communication center is applied in best government media practices, indicating the urgent need to unify the announced figures and the media messages between government agencies.

It also seeks to highlight success stories and keep pace with the growth the Kingdom is currently witnessing in an effective manner, Al-Awwad said.

The minister said one of the most important functions of the center is to support media departments in different government agencies to achieve their tasks. The center, he added, would play an advisory and supporting role. The existing policy of the information centers will not be changed, Al-Awwad clarified.

The center also seeks to activate the role of official spokesmen and it would help government departments develop mechanisms for rapid response to events and developments.
The minister said the communication center would serve as a reference for the development, formulation and production of media content.
