 The first annual Get Driver Fit (GDF) Fitness Festival welcomed hundreds of participants from across the Capital to the du Forum in a celebration of all things health and wellbeing this Friday, 10 November.

 

The first-of-its-kind gathering marked the conclusion of Get Driver Fit 2017, the seven-week free fitness programme by FLASH Entertainment and National Health Insurance Company – Daman’s ActiveLife initiative, that saw over 700 participants attend a variety of free fitness activities across the Capital.

 

Fitness fans from across the UAE had the opportunity to experience a broad range of activity types during the action-packed community day which spanned from relaxation and rejuvenation via yoga and wellbeing talks, to serious strength and fitness challenges that saw participants battle it out for the prestigious title of Abu Dhabi’s Fittest Man and Woman. A truly family friendly day out, the GDF Fitness Festival also saw little ones getting involved from a young age at the baby gym and sand art activities along with street sports for older kids, ensuring that the message of a healthy and active lifestyle resonated with the whole family.

This programme is largely about community and ensuring fitness is accessible to all residents across the Capital and today was a true testament to that. By offering a wide variety of fitness classes, we ensured there was something on offer for all ages and fitness abilities, whilst also encouraging participation from serious athletes via challenging competitions such as Abu Dhabi’s Fittest Person competition. We at FLASH Entertainment extend our congratulations to Anthony Monks and Stephanie Chung for taking the title of Abu Dhabi’s Fittest Person, along with Guillermo Lafuente and Shahida Bhandia who showed great commitment and stamina throughout the overall GDF programme – a very well deserved win.”

 

Also speaking after the GDF Fitness Festival, Dr. Sven Rohte, Chief Commercial Officer, National Health Insurance Company – Daman said: “We conclude another successful year of Get Driver Fit having made a significant impact on our community’s health. The GDF Fitness Festival is a brilliant example of why this fun-filled programme is all part of our aim of creating healthier communities across the UAE, as it has engaged various segments of the community in numerous exercises and a truly remarkable 7 week experience towards achieving a healthy lifestyle. “I offer my compliments to the winners for taking out the prize for overall participation, a true demonstration of their personal commitment to a healthy and active lifestyle which will certainly inspire all of us to get more active ourselves’’.

 

As winners of the seven-week free fitness programme, Guillermo Lafuente and Shahida Bhandia took home the prize of a well-deserved exotic getaway to Thailand, provided by Nirvana Travel & Tourism, the event Travel & Logistics Partner. The champions of Abu Dhabi’s Fittest Person Competition each received AED 10K, a cash injection to allow them to continue to pursue their fitness journey.
