The Asia Pacific region is home to some of the world’s most capital-intensive projects in oil and gas. Australia (6%),Malaysia (6%) and China (5%) all feature within the top five investment destinations for projects in oil and gas after the USA (22%) and Brazil (9%). The hse industry in oil, gas and petrochemicals sector views HSE issues differently now from the way it did even a decade ago. HSE was once thought of as an unattractive cost to a project, now attention to those issues is considered critical. Companies now realize that high HSE standards and practices are part of an efficient operation and part of doing good business, growing evidence also exists that shows that companies with the highest HSE standards also provide excellent financial returns.
